Communication and Team Building

Alexis Galeotti MGT200 Project 3 Communication Barriers: Having good communication skills on a team is really important because this can ensure everyone on the team can work efficiently. On the LTC, Frank, Jerry, and Sarah have been on the team for a very long time. Frank has been on the team for 12 years and has 25 years of professional experience. Jerry has been on the team for 8 years and has 15 years of professional experience. Sarah has been on the team for 10 years and has 20 years of professional experience. The other employee Allyson has only been on the team for 5 years and this is her first job out of college. This could pose a communication barrier between her and the other 3 employees. Allyson doesn't have the same amount of experience as them and hasn't been on the team as long as them either. This can make it challenging for her to communicate with them. She might be behind where they are and need more experience. In the company STC, the team has more employees than LTC. Most of the employees at STC have barely been with the company for more than a year, and only have a few years of experience. This could be a communication barrier because the two companies are merging together and the STC employees might not be able to communicate effectively with the LTC employees because of their lack of experience and lack of time being on the team. Another communication barrier is the age difference between the employees of both teams. Some of the older employees might have a hard time communicating with the younger employees because they use technology more and see things differently than older people. A bias is that older people tend to be more closed-minded whereas younger people today, tend to be more open-minded. Another communication barrier is the skills they all have from their experiences. Some of the older employees have more experience than the younger employees which can make communicating difficult. The younger employees with less experience might find it difficult to see ideas that the older employees might have. Personal approach: The approach I will be taking to assess my strengths and weaknesses is to take a personality test. This test will show me where I am struggling as well as where I do really well. The personality test will likely measure your motivation skills, interests, emotional make-up, etc. These results are really important in helping you manage your team. Once I get my results, I will begin taking a look at my weaknesses and try to find strategies that will work for me to help improve my weaknesses. I think finding strategies and applying them to my professional life can really help me manage my team better. It's hard to manage a team if you don't know where you're not as strong in, and don't know how to improve it. The approach I will be taking to address my own biase
