Overcoming Communication Barriers in Team Dynamics

7-3 Project Three: Communication Plan Andre Ross Southern New Hampshire University MGT-200-H7266 Leadership and Team Building 24EW4. Mr. Loflin April 20, 2024 Communication Barriers Effective communication is the key to a team's successful dynamics, yet there are numerous things that can impede this if we aren't comprehending correctly. This paper examines key communication barriers and proposes strategies for overcoming them, along with fostering collaboration within the newly formed team. For example, the barriers that could be affected are our mental process, overthinking the information, detachment with other, gender differences, miscommunication between one another, and prejudice language (Bauer, 2020). LTC's acquisition of STC can hinder it if these barriers if not promptly addressed successfully. Dependability is what is thrived on by the team so anything less than that can pose a threat as LTC employees are very knowledgeable when it comes to their profession. The employees who work for LTC have longevity as in seniority giving them position showing the years, they earned up to 5 plus year and the STC has two employees who are barely a year under their belt in the profession. The two employees who have a year under their belt is Jerome and Carlos which makes it harder on them. Not having as many years of experience and seniority their credibility when it comes to the profession are overlooked. Moreover, the extensiveness of working remotely amplifies difficulties with the challenges of miscommunication between sender and receivers. There are a few remote workers in STC such as Portia, Jerome, and Carlos, who's reliance is based upon their software which can complicate situations when understanding their tone or body language via video/email. Also, connection could be interrupted when facetime video chat so facial recognition to see clear facial expression (Gallup Inc., 2021). A study published in the Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organization Behavior states that face-to-face communication leads to higher levels of agreements among members and enhances their productivity in achieving goals towards task (Morrison-Smith & Ruiz, 2020). To overcome this obstacle, remote workers should know it's imperative to use tailor-made communication platforms and ensure access to high-quality video and audio equipment mitigating the barrier. However, reassurance is great so following up on these important emails with phone or video calls ensure no miscommunications. Personal Approach Managers should possess the ability to acknowledge and administer emotions effectively, irrespective of the circumstances, to stimulate stronger connections with their team members. If I were to assume a manager position, it would be pivotal for me to evaluate how my emotional responses effect my team's productivity. Reacting rashly or caning out at employees when stressed would only harm the professional rapport. Instead, maintaining a composed demeanor is essential for making rational decisions to achieve the best productivity. Setting this behavior as the norm will hopefully inspire others to follow suit and see the standard that's held. Leading by example in this manner will help me to be more welcoming, enabling employees to feel at peace when giving their questions
