Valerie Lopez Mary Sanders MGT 200 November 25, 2023 5-1 Case Study: Communication and Social Media Challenges Faced by Organizations and Employees When Dealing with Social Media consist of Privacy and Confidentiality, Reputation, Professional Conduct, and Respect for Organizations and Employees. Privacy and Confidentiality is to control the social media platforms that are public spaces where information can easily be shared beyond the intended audience. For example, an employee might inadvertently share sensitive company information on their social media profile, leading to potential data breaches. This does not always mean sharing information about the workplace such as client's information, applications, passwords, or any type of work-related information but such as the system they use. For example, Amazon employees post on social media how they scan products and place them inside boxes prepping for shipping. It does not show clients information or work information, but it does show the system they use on how to prep everything. Reputation Management is an employees' actions on social media can reflect on the organization. For instance, if an employee posts offensive or inappropriate content, it can harm the company's reputation. Causing the company to be in a tough situation debating to save the employee and the company's reputation or to just save the company's reputation. This can be a simple post such as
"When my boss tells me what to do.", "When I am doing three people's job, but getting only salary for one.", They do not pay enough, but give us a pizza party for all our hard work." These types of post can affect a company's reputation by having an image of overworking employees and not paying them a fair amount, having a company who only needs bodies not a stable foundation for a workplace. Having such a reputation can cause low numbers in staff and a harder time to hire and keep new employees. In my opinion, the incident with the conference attendees highlights the need for clear communication guidelines within an organization. If I were to handle it, I would first address the issue directly with the involved parties, seeking to understand their perspectives. Then, I would remind all employees about the importance of professional conduct on social media, especially when representing the company. Seeing both sides perspectives will allow for better understanding and help with communicating a way to fix the issue without going to social media. Social Media Policy Outline is a social media policy for an organization might include the following points having Professional Conduct, all Employees should maintain a professional demeanor on social media, especially when discussing work-related matters. Confidentiality must be for all Employees not share confidential or proprietary information on social media. Lastly, Respect and Tolerance meaning Employees should respect others' views and avoid posting offensive or discriminatory content. An article I read states "Remember: Social media can be a powerful tool for organizations, but it must be used responsibly. A clear social media policy can help guide employees and protect the organization." Social
