Personal and Professional Development in Leadership

MGT200 Module 3 Project 1 Development Plan 1 Module 3 Project 1 Development Plan Melissa G. Williams Southern New Hampshire University MGT - 200 - H6606 July 16, 2023 MGT200 Module 3 Project 1 Development Plan 2 Reflecting on yourself is the first step to making changes and plans for your future. In becoming self-aware, I tallied up what matters most to me. My family, including my husband of eight years and my dog, and my friends, are not always in the order of who I like most. My personal value system has always centered around being kind. I believe treating people with kindness is how we can make the world a better place and shapes what I do. Being accepting and hard-working has also shaped my personal and professional decisions in my life. I work currently in an environment helping students to sign up for short-term programs and how we find the best solutions for their problems, is what will help their lives be better. Over the past ten years, I have become a person who is consistently a hard worker at every company I have been at. In four different companies, I have worked my way up from a sales associate/assistant to a member of management/coordinator role after proving that I will work hard to learn rules, train associates, and handle customer service to the point I was recommended for positions before I would apply for them. I have developed time management and multitasking skills over the years to ensure the proper maintenance of my team's success. By working in retail for seven years, especially in management, I have learned how to manage confrontation and de-escalating difficult situations safely. I work as Community and Recreational Services Coordinator at a local community college, but I would love to one day become a Veteran Benefits Specialist working for my county. As the wife of a veteran, I have first-hand experience with the failings of information given to veterans and the amount of wrong information shared with people when leaving the military. My hometown is home to one of the largest Air Force Base tech schools in the nation, and being able to be the person who can connect veterans to the people who can answer any odd questions is my goal. Veteran Benefits Specialists serve as information hubs between the U.S. MGT200 Module 3 Project 1 Development Plan 3 Department of Veterans Affairs and veterans and their families. Benefits Specialists help veterans to access educational and health benefits and sign up for their pensions. In my county, they will travel to various job and school fairs, partner with our homeless nonprofits, and meet with current service members to work on transition paperwork. As someone who routinely conducts research for new programs for our college, I have become a strong team player by making sure information is gathered correctly and information shared. I am a strong and active listener and welcome feedback from teammates to ensure the team does not struggle
