1. Personal Reflection Personal reflection will allow me to dive deep into myself and allow me to face both negative and positive changes I may have to face in my career. Taking a look at myself, my value system has stayed the same such as loyalty, kindness, integrity, and personality. For the past six months, I have worked in corrections of which I must pay close attention to detail, my surroundings, and the smallest things happening around me. All the skills that I have obtained during the last six months in the facility and the last month the training that I obtained in the academy, I will be able to use in my personal life and in the future of my career. 2. Professional Reflection The specific job that I would like to pursue once I finish my classes and obtain my bachelor's is becoming a police officer or working in parole and probation. I am currently working in a prison and as a correctional officer and I love it. I have been in the prison for six months now and I enjoy the fellow officers that I have met over the small-time span including the inmates that have come and gone of which I hope stay on the right track after they leave. Still being only a CO1 still, the correctional officers that have been there longer tend to brush the little things off, of which I do not and make sure I report anything out of the ordinary to my direct supervisor. Some of the Corporals do not like it, but I will not lose my career because they did not want to bother with something or report something they felt was not worthy. 3. Developmental Goals
To support my growth as an important and effective officer in earning my bachelor's degree, I use the SMART. I shall be completing this goal in the next couple of years. In the meantime, since I am still working as a correctional officer it will give me enough time to explore the career path more. Once I obtain my bachelor's degree, I know that it will help me grow and gain a lot more skills to improve myself as an individual. It will also help me go deeper into the field and get more knowledge and skill under my belt. 4. Development Opportunities To reach these goals it will be especially important for me to dedicate myself and focusing on my long-term goal which is to earn my bachelor's degree in criminal justice since time management and many other things are important for my current job and to help manage my time with college work. Taking time management seriously is important so that I can continue to stay strong and proceed to get my bachelor's degree.
