Team Management Plan for a Growing Technology Team

Esparza 1 5-3 Project Two: Team Management Plan Juan Esparza Southern New Hampshire University MGT 200 Leadership and Team Building Instructor Sandra Sheppard February 11, 2024 Esparza 2 With the acquisition of the Small Technology Company (STC), the Large Technology Company (LTC) needs to come up with a team management plan. The team will be growing from a four-man team to a 10-man team and as a member of management, understanding a team's dynamics will help ensure the creation of an effective team. Finding the strengths and weaknesses will help create a healthy work environment while successfully positioning the team members. Each team member's personality is different, for example, Frank, an LTC professional. He enjoys thinking at a high level and coming up with grand ideas, he just needs a little help implementing those ideas. Allyson, a member of the LTC team, enjoys working in a team environment and finding creative ideas to solve problems. She has high energy levels that her current team has learned to work with. Another member of the team is Jerry. Jerry is a curious, motivated, energetic, and productive member. His high energy levels make it difficult to focus and his actions could be seen as offensive to others. Finally, Sarah is good at correlating data and analyzing it before forming deductions before presenting possible solutions. She is uncomfortable brainstorming without knowing all the facts. On the STC team, Portia is an offsite employee that is very ambitious and excels at her position, but as an offsite employee, management has been hesitant to promote her. Arjun prefers to work alone but is also effective when working in a group. His unorthodox work schedule with limited supervision has led to questions. Violet completes all the tasks given to her but lacks motivation and does not want to advance. Jerome works remotely but feels left out and unheard during team interactions. Jin can be seen as confrontational but is outgoing and enjoys working with others. While a more hands-on employee she is more action and less talk. Lastly, Carlos is uncomfortable with change and has a process that he follows when working. He feels Esparza 3 like he is not part of a team due to working remotely and continuously being left out in interoffice communication. The two theories that I found most suited were the Human Relations Theory and the Bureaucratic Theory. With the Human Relations Theory, it investigates a worker's satisfaction, methods to affect productivity, and informal organizational structures in the workplace. This theory promotes teamwork and sees the group as a collective as opposed to an individual. A Bureaucracy Theory supports diversity and an inclusive work environment while supporting the idea of working as a team and protecting the workers from mistreatment (Bauer, 2019). It shines a light on individual accomplishments over group accolades. The best suited for leading a team would be the Human Relations Theory. It emphasizes teamwork while the leader still has control over the team. Each member has a voice
