Hi everyone, I am in my senior year at SNHU and studying to receive a bachelor's degree in general studies with a concentration in business administration. I am excited to take this course since I believe it will allow me to apply what I have learned in the classroom to real-world situations, which will significantly impact my ability to succeed in my future career. As a bailiff for a local common pleas court in Ohio, I play a crucial role in ensuring smooth courtroom operations, and I contribute to my team's overall success in upholding justice. I play a significant communicator role when I work with my team. As a good communicator, I must practice good listening skills and occasionally use humor or empathy to relate to my audience. Additionally, I act in a collaborator role as I work through our daily criminal dockets to keep the team on track and will suggest ideas to change our daily schedule when necessary. For example, the Judge, court reporter, and I work in a formal group, through pooled task interdependence, to get through our criminal docket each morning. My role as a communicator and collaborator is seen as I am working with the attorneys, defendants, and my team members as I arrange cases and keep the docketing moving throughout the morning. Sometimes, I must rearrange the team's schedule throughout the day to complete cases that could not be completed in the morning. My role contributes to the team's success by working directly with the outside stakeholders (attorneys and defendants) and keeping the parties actively engaged and working toward resolving their cases, which then will be brought into the courtroom for my team (Judge, court reporter, and myself) to put the information into the official record. As we hear cases in the courtroom, we can complete our docket and continue to uphold justice and not keep cases sitting unresolved.
