Southwest Airlines is one of the triple-bottom-line companies I am using for my final project. They presently communicate their sustainability efforts on their website, and in their annual One Report which shares their environmental. social, and governance (ESG) reporting amongst other things. In review of their social media pages, I see that they mention some of their initiatives as well as causes they also support. However, their social media posts are mainly unrelated to their sustainability practices.
I'd have to say Southwest is ineffective in utilizing their social media pages to openly share their sustainability practices. A great deal of our population has at least one social media account. What better way to share the steps you have taken or intend to take in your sustainability efforts then on social media? Furthermore, from a marketing standpoint, social media ads, posts, etc. are given this day in age. So, in my opinion, they should promote their efforts more on social media as it's an easy cost-effective way to advertise and communicate with your customers.
Their website goes into great detail about their sustainability efforts as does their One report which is very informative. This is where I'd say Southwest is very effective in communicating their sustainability efforts. All anyone needs to do to find out what steps Southwest is taking to enhance the lives of their employees, leave the planet a little better than they found it, etc. is go to thei webpage.
