Community Argument
We the people of the Plainville community strongly oppose the short-term lease Byte Products Inc. is proposing for the abandoned plant within our community. While on the surface this appears to be a positive proposal, the fact is, Byte Products, Inc. is the only party that stands to benefit. Especially in the long run. As noted in their proposal, they intend to lease the abandoned plant for approximately three years. The people of our community, as well as those who may relocate here to take up employment at the plant, will then find themselves unemployed when Byte Products closes shop in Plainville and moves into their new facility elsewhere. An outside director for Byte Products, Inc., T. Kevin Williams, even proposed strong arguments on how much turmoil it will cause our community. More specifically, he argued that most of the people who used to work at the plant eight years ago, and remained in Plainville, would not put their trust into a temporary plant with a risk of failing once again. You cannot glamorize this expecting to pull the shade over our eyes. This is our lively hood. Our community already suffered a substantial loss when the previous company closed eight years ago. In fact, many people had to move away from Plainville to obtain employment in other towns. What does that say about the values of Byte Products, Inc.? Are you that eager to ruin the lives of so many yet again? Think about the other negative impacts to consider, such as damage to our community tax base and other local businesses being forced to close due to lack of sales.
Furthermore, let's say we did allow Byte Products, Inc. to open their plant in Plainville; We haven't heard of how it will affect the environment not once. The plant is very outdated. Yes, Byte Products, Inc. will be renovating it to suit their needs, but how do we know they intend to make considerations for the carbon emissions their operations will emit? While Byte Products. Inc. will be operating temporarily, will it be a green business? How will the company impact our community and environment positively in its short time in our town? You have stated everything you will gain like, the ease of starting operation since the need of licensing is not needed and your ability to control your own pricing, which we already know you're in the business of making money, so it'll be nothing but increases. But what about us?
As we continue our thought on the environmental concerns, the proposed plant requires a staff of 1,200. That would include a means to live like housing, more public transportation, childcare for the employees, schools, etc. Where is the funding coming from for that? Additionally, this means there could be 1,200 more vehicles now traveling around Plainville. Not only does this mean higher carbon emissions
