Managing Talent During a Crisis

Lilia Sandoval Southern New Hampshire University OL -620 Total Rewards Professor Jenkins Date: Jun 17,2022 Managing talent during a period of crisis is something companies must be aware of. Especially after dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a lot of businesses to close. It results in these current side effects of the economic crisis with the spike in inflation and unemployment. In the article chosen, they discuss alternatives to manage talent without making cuts in the workforce during a time of transformation. The short-term effect, when laying off employees, benefits the company when it comes to the operational cost. When the medium effect follows that's when the company really beings to struggle. With that being said, now that they don't have as many employees. It forces others to do double the work to keep up with production. When you decide not to lay off or fire anyone, you must look for more innovative solutions, and when you're successful in doing that, that leads to an improvement in the economic performance of your company (Wharton Staff, 2008) Luckily during the pandemic, my company investigated other innovative solutions, which resulted in a lot of employees teleworking. When it came to the medium term the cooperation noticed that working from home vs the office didn't make a difference in production. Because of the results the company leased out our office to others, benefiting and saving the company money. This also incorporated a better training plan and weekly check-ins to get updates on the company's turnover rates. When we manage talent correctly, we are in better shape to deal with a crisis. (Wharton Staff, 2008). As the leader of human resources, I would have done the same. As the article states when you decide not to lay-off or fire anyone, you must look for more innovative solutions, and when you're successful in doing that, that leads to an improvement in the economic performance of your company (Wharton Staff, 2008). What I have observed in my studies from my degree work is that the employees are the key to success and a successful company. Allowing the employees to work from home, feeling safe from the pandemic, showed the employees that the company cares. Another benefit that the leader of HR gave to the employees was giving them access to free counseling, to help deal with the isolation and Teladoc for any quick doctor visit from home. A company that develops confidence and generates these conditions motivates its talented personnel to produce more than it has ever produced. Resources: Knowledge at Wharton Staff.
