Hello classmates, My name is Lilia I am currently a Jr. Chemist with a BS in chemistry. I am transitioning into the world of HR so I'm studying to get my MS in HR management. I'm excited about what lies ahead of me in this journey. I recently got married at the start of the year on January 1st 2022. I have 2 dogs a Golden Retriever and German Shepard. A protector and a goofball, they are a perfect pair! I live in Texas where we already have 109-degree weather, so those of you up north please enjoy the weather for me. Going through this inflation there should most definitely be a raise in the minimum wage. The cost of living varies from state to state and can affect the minimum wage for each state. CBO states that the federal minimum wage has not changed since 2009, being $7.25 per hour. I believe both state and federal should raise the minimum wage. Most people will argue about not changing the federal wage due to then expecting the price of products to increase. But since 2009 most products have increased and are continuing to increase at alarming rates. Justifying that a raise in the federal minimum wage is well overdue. Introducing the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 to help increase the federal minimum wage for regular employees over 5 years, for tipped employees, and for newly hired employees who are less than 20 years old (Congress, 2021). Each state can then further adjust the minimum wage in their states to comply with their cost of living. Surely there will be a rippled effect due to the increased wage. Employees can have more opportunities or may become more motivated to work. Employers will have more of a struggle having to compete with other companies. They will have to work on their compensations and rewards to help retain employees. Having fewer families in poverty and increased consumer spending will help the economy and society.
