Change Management

In the story Kotter's last four steps is depicted by the penguins working together to create a group of scouts that could assist in making the move that needed to be made easier by getting information about places that they could go. This action allowed all those involved to feel like they had a say in the changes that were being made which made all of them feel empowered. The story allowed for the penguins to have a win by giving an obtainable goal for the scout penguins to achieve then by celebrating them with the "Hero Day" fair. By doing this the penguins that wanted to see the change the most were able to keep pushing the changes that they wanted to see and at the end of the day they were able to show that the change that they saw happening would create a new culture for the birds by way of making it okay for them to shave the food that is caught. In the organization that I previously spoke of in the previous assignment I can say that this is exactly how my job handled the change that they wanted to see for the shifts. They created pilot programs at institutions that are fully staffed that advocated for the shift from four 12-hour shifts to three 8-hour shifts. By doing this they showed that the change was working and that if the change happened statewide then it would ultimately work for every institution no matter the staffing levels. This significantly changed the culture within the department which eventually allowed for the changes that were sought to be made.
