Surname 1 Name Professor Course Institution Date Slope Stability Analysis and Slope Design Optimization Introduction Due to the increase in the study of landslides also known as hillsides, this experiment was designed to study the effect and disruptions of landslides, analyze the risks on the property and propose corrective actions. As a result of such fatalities, major damages and risks, several factors affecting the stability of a slope have been analyzed. This report discusses the factors and evaluates how a bench place in the hillside may increase the stability of landslide. This paper reports four factors that were studied to optimize the design of a hillside bench. This paper extends its evaluation of the factors affecting hillside slope to a design of an optimal solution to curb the disasters associated with the risk[CITATION Bor10 \p 1-14 \l 1033 ]. Therefore, the factors included the width of the bench, its height taken form the level of ground water, vertical and horizontal locations of the simulation bench. Each of the four factors is exhausted, and the effect of each parameter is studied. The optimal design is therefore based on this factor evaluation 14 \1 1033 1. Just as the number of factors for evaluation, the team organized assigned each group member a factor to evaluate. Each analyzed the common factors affecting slope, and thus Surname 2 drainage methods, loading conditions, reinforcement methods, soil properties and types were evaluated by each member. Therefore, comparisons were made, and conclusions drawn as per the comparison each member feedback. To achieve the study objectives, trusted web pages, journal materials, books, engineering library materials and engineering personnel were consulted for information and guidance. The literature was therefore arranged in a chronological order noticing the advancements in the studies over the time. Therefore, this study is based on the current state of landslide factors. Coupling the solutions that were obtained from the literature, it was successful to study, analyze, and design an optimal slope solution. To simulate the slope phenomenon, a bench was placed in the middle of the predetermined width and heights of the slope. As stated above, the factors analyzed the bench in different orientations in which the vertical and horizontal bench placement were performed. Additionally, the ground water level was done by making the level as the reference and the baseline as per the configuration of the slope. The analysis was done by Bishop's Simplified Method of Slices which involved, and as the name of the method suggests, the profile was divided into slices, though not equally spaced, the slices were evenly distributed over the slope configuration. Consequently, variables in the bench profiles and their respective components were defined which led to a detailed analysis of the bench taken to represent the slope of a hillside.
