A. Summary
Huntington Hospital is the case study I chose to work with this term and for this journal
This case study discusses the issue of the revenue cycle. Did you know Huntington Hospital has
625 beds in their hospital? I can't imagine how big that facility is. Huntington hospital has been
around for about 125 years. There main goal is to provide excellent and compassionate services
to patients which is Huntington vision and mission for the facility to strive for. Kim Markey
started working for Huntington Hospital revenge cycle as Executive director in 2012. "Markey's
long-term vision involved re-examining the revenue cycle and the hospital's processes to ensure
that HH would become a stronger performer. he needed to get her metrics under control as a first
step before transforming the departments she oversaw-Admitting, Business Services, Data
Services, Medical Records, and Revenue Integrity---into truly patient-focused business centers.
The next step would be removing barriers for patients and evolving the mindset of her
departments so that HH would become known as "an organization that is going to work with you
to help you understand what's going on" (Soule & Drabkin, 2015). This will help Kim find ways
to improve processes, improve patient communication and the outlook of the whole situation.
B. Current Policies
I feel current organizational policies currently addressed influence the environmental and/or
external factors because of the lack of communication. Communication needs to be improved so
all staff are on the same page. Markey changed that by creating an open-door policy to create a
relationship with her staff. By doing so, this has created the employees to communicate and
feeling positive about bringing up an issue to management and know that they will listen.
C. Changes
Focusing on the employee's development for the company instead of micromanaging would
create a healthier environment for staff. Recommendations for Huntington Hospital would be to
focus on their staff and their needs. I say this because staff were neglected to begin with, and
their environmental and cultural needs were not cared for. Now that it is by their new leader,
there is some changes, and the company is striving little by little with improvement. In the past
workers were afraid to speak up and now that their new leader is in the picture, they are adjusting
to speaking up for their own concerns for their company. Another recommendation for the
company would be communication. As we all know communication is key to success and getting
the job done. Everyone is on the same page, unfortunately that is not picture perfect everywhere
we all go. Kim is striving to communicate and learn her staff little by little. Lastly instead of the
revenue team focusing in closing small accounts per week they should strive to close bigger
accounts first then smaller accounts. This can help the company control balanced accounts. This
would help the revenue system to be more
