HCM 415 Healthcare Strategy Management and Policy Milestone Two: Strategic Planning Approach 22 January 2023 A. Organizational Approach When analyzing Huntington Hospitals strategic approach to process improvement measures, hiring Kim Markey was an impactful decision. Markey's managerial style and leadership abilities were heavily utilized to address organizational concerns. She focused on internal issues such as employee interaction and workplace morale. Keeping the Hospital's values and mission in mind, Markey immediately took action to address process concerns and reevaluate the current procedures. This was done by new and improved employee trainings and a new environment of support and open communication. Employee were ultimately more efficient. effective, and demonstrated strong critical thinking abilities. Markey's plan was successful in gaining employee trust while maintaining the goals presented in the vision and mission statements. She also addressed some technical improvements including a more advanced EMR system with user friendly navigation. B.& C. Issues and Concerns: Based on the information presented in the case study there appeared to be many minor issues contributing to larger issues. Employees had expressed concerns with lack of communication, management approachability, and negative workplace morale. These concerns were contributing factors for the increased number of days in the reimbursement process. Employees in the accounts receivables department stated a lack of guidance and training lead them to work independently and by their own rules. This contributed to consistency issues and longer reimbursement processing times. Because of this the organization was falling behind the national standard in reimbursement processing times, which is a concern. This is a great example of how lack of involved management can impact the entire department. D.Role Healthcare management is an essential role in a health organization. Managers typically implement change and make informed decisions, enforce policies and procedures, and promote organizational improvement. A strategic managerial style should include two-way communication and honest feedback. Employees are usually willing to follow a leader who demonstrates communication, trust, and clearly states expectations. Healthcare managers regulate the culture of the work environment and set the tone for successful operations. A poor leader can negatively impact the entire team and drive employee turnover and conflicts. It is crucial for an organization to be selective with the people they place in their management positions. E. Stakeholders There are multiple stakeholders addressed in the Huntington Hospital case study. The first stakeholder being the employees, nurses, and other hospital staff. The process improvement changes will directly impact the staff and their daily workflow. The accounts receivables department will establish new procedures to minimize time in the revenue reimbursement process. Another identified stakeholder in this scenario is members of management. Management will continue to implement change and enforce new policies effectively. The final stakeholder would be customers, or patients. The patients are ultimately who the healthcare organization is serving. The organization should make decisions with the benefit of the patient in mind. This is the best way to drive quality care, offer a variety of services, and establish relationships with patients. The organization would fail if
