Communicating in a Medical Setting
The two medical key terms I chose are:
Stroke- "a loss of blood flow to part of the brain, which damages brain tissue. Strokes are caused by blood clots and broken blood vessels in the brain" (National Cancer Institute, 2011): Another way to explain the definition of a stroke would "sometimes be called a brain attack, which occurs when something blocks the blood supply to part of the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts"(CDC,2019)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTsD)- "a psychiatric disorder that may occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, series of events, or set of
or physically harmful or life-threatening and may affect mental physical, social, and/or spiritual well-being" (American Psychiatric Association, 2020). A simpler way to explain what PTSD is would be, "a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying
include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event" (Mayo Clinic, 2018).
The one financial term that I chose is Medicare. "Medicare is the federal health insurance program for, individuals 65 and older, certain younger people with disabilities, people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD)" (Medicare, 2019) A simple way to explain what Medicare is would be, "Medicare is a medical Insurance program for people over 65 and younger disabled people and dialysis patients" (Affairs (ASPA), n.d.)
