Vertebrate Natural History iNaturalist Project

FORS2355 iNaturalist Overview Due Date: 3 December 2021 @ 8:00am iNaturalist Digital Specimen Collection: Students will be required to upload a minimum of 25 observations of vertebrate taxa to iNaturalist.org. Required to have at least 1 observation from the 5 major vertebrate groups (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, mammals) and at least 15 unique species. mockingbirds from SFA's campus), and only 1 student can "observe" an individual specimen Observations cannot be made by other individuals (i.e., you need to be the one making the observation), cannot taken from game cameras, and must be observed in this semester. Consult syllabus for final due date for observations. Observations must be uploaded to the course project page (see syllabus for class project name) as well as any additional appropriate project pages. For example: Texas Fish -- Fishes of Texas Texas Amphibians and Reptiles -- Herps of Texas Texas Birds -- Birds of Texas Texas Mammals -- Mammals of Texas Extra Credit Opportunity (due 3 December 2021 @ 8:00am): Please make sure I can identify you from your iNaturalist username (e.g. first initial and last name). Join iNaturalist project "Roadkills of Texas" observations from this semester. If someone already "observed" an individual, it cannot upload of that same individual. If 1-10 unique observations uploaded = 0.5 point per observation up to 5 points on exam 3 grade. If 20 or more unique observations uploaded, 20 points added to exam III grade. To increase their value, observations must include: Temperature (F) Precipitation (non, light, intermittent, heavy) Sex (male, female, unknown) Life stage (adult, juvenile, unknown) Uploaded to other appropriate Texas projects (Mammals -- Mammals of Texas, etc.) You will not receive credit for your observations (and thus no extra credit) if you do not meet all these requirements. Do NOT upload your roadkill extra credit observations to the class project page. You cannot apply the roadkill observations towards your Digital Specimen Collection project (you cannot double dip and have roadkills count for both the project grade and extra credit). At the end of the semester, you will still need to have at least 25 observations for your Digital Specimen Collection (assignment details listed in the syllabus). Consult syllabus for final due date for observations. Note: Any falsifying of data for the Digital Specimen Collection or the roadkill extra credit project will result in a grade of zero for both
