Crime and Society CLJ 120

Part one The Hickey's Trauma Control Model consists of early childhood trauma (sexual or physical) and their families who have undergone divorces or deaths, as well as those who have been ostracized at school, are relevant traumas according to Hickey has the potential to set children up for deviant behavior later in life; the environment a child lives in (whether it is their parents or society) is most important in determining whether homicidal behavior escalates. The serial killer I am going to focus on today that fits into the Hickey's trauma control model is Ted Bundy. When Bundy was a child he himself believed and told others how his childhood was perfect and amazing. In general he seemed to never show his emotions very well. I believe that when he was younger not knowing that his mother was going to abandon him after birth or him believing that his mother was his sister could have been one of the factors to why he became a serial killer but then again there's many other reasons. Another big reason was how when he dated his first ex girlfriend and they broke up he admitted to wanting to get some sort of revenge. We saw that he did have a type when going after his victims. We saw that his type was white slim and with dark long hair. He was also very addicted to violent porn. We see that when he was a child he used to get bullied and teased. There's many things that fit him into the description of the hickey's trauma control model. He did have some psychological problems not only that but he did create feelings of trauma when his first girlfriend rejected him because it led him to go after women who reminded him of his very first ex-girlfriend. Bundy admitted to watching porn but when looking for porn he said that he looked for more graphic and explicit material but it was never enough to satisfy him. Part two The programs I plan to fund are schools or anything that has to do with children or kids being involved and off the streets as well as Community violence intervention programs. These programs will also be involved most closely and especially in areas where there is a lot of violence and communities that are in poverty. The reason I tend to fund these programs is because teens, even those who are barely going into their teens years are being recruited to be part of gangs everyday and it's important to have childrens and teens to avoid committing crimes, especially crimes that can lead them to being imprisoned without parole. Within these programs I would maybe have some self defense classes such as korate, boxing, anything that can help them learn how to defend themselves as well as learn. Creative arts in order for children to express their emotions a bit more or even programs that help teens and adolescents to learn and get experience on how to
