You have just decided to run for alderman of the 11th ward in Chicago. The University of Illinois at Chicago is in the l1th ward. Crime had dramatically increased in the area including carjackings, robberies, and minor larceny thefts (less than $1000.00 stolen). At a community meeting the residents demanded that policymakers do something to reduce crime in the neighborhood. Using one of the policing philosophies discussed in class such as community policing, problem-oriented policing, or broken windows policing (zero tolerance policing), create a written speech which outlines to the residents how you will address crime if elected alderman. 2B. Congratulations you have been appointed inspector general for the city of Chicago. The job of the inspector general is to investigate misconduct and corruption in public organizations including the police. As inspector general discuss three systems that you will put in place to increase police accountability. Be sure to explain how each of the systems is connected to increasing accountability and reducing the type of problems they are designed to prevent. Part 2 - Pick Only One Question to Answer 1B. In class we discussed the importance of police reform (The Presidential Task Force on 21st Century Policing) and verbal judo. Explain how verbal judo can be used in the context of police reform to improve relations between the police and the community. Department crisis intervention team as a crisis interrupter. Explain how you will use verbal judo during encounters with individuals with mental illness to prevent injuries for both residents and o cers.
