Ethical and Legal Issues with Big Data Application in Governments
Introduction:
People of today's world are in the cusp of a revolution of "Big Data". Although the
importance of Big Data has been extensive as it can shape and determine today's methods of
communication by encouraging people to use open data sources and let them know how their
interactions can be widespread easily and effortlessly, it has some radical issues that threaten
people's life simultaneously. Government sector is an area where Big Data has started becoming
more effective and noteworthy, however ethical and legal issues of Big Data disappoint
everyone, especially who are well-aware of how severe those issues could be. Government tends
to make use of tools regardless of the fact that those are ancient in type or sophisticated.
Effectiveness, safety, and transparency are all that a government looks for when it is used for
serving citizens and government itself. Big Data is not simply safe enough, at least, this time
around as it offers numerous threats to the bodies of the government as well as its population. Al-
khouri (2012) expressed his hopelessness regarding the application of Big Data in the
government sector stating that basically, individuals' personal information can be generated by
various sources from devices, people, rightful owner, and different people who/which can be the
authority to verify its actuality as becoming the "True Owner" of those data. In fact, this
vulnerability of data recognition, data handling, and data stealing can not be suitable for a
government, since a government sector is blessed with highly authentic, secure, respected, and
