This week I was consumed with concepts like asymptotic analysis and time complexity. I was striving to grasp the specifics of how this applies to analyzing the performance of different algorithms. Here's a reflection on my learning journey: Describe what you did I began the week by reviewing chapter 3 of'A Practical Introduction to Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis' with a clear focus on Clifford A. Shaffer. This chapter gave an in-depth explanation of the analysis techniques of algorithms, including best, worst, and average cases, the use of the asymptotic analysis technique, and a big O notation. Besides, I spent time watching supplemental MIT video lectures to get more in-depth explanations about the topics Describe your reactions to what you did While keeping up with reading and the lectures, the charm of asymptotic analysis captured my interest in measuring the dynamics of the algorithms. On the contrary, even the hardest times were not rare as I attempted to reach the upper and lower limits of mathematical concepts. Nevertheless, with these struggles, I was not going to stop deepening my understanding, and I promptly asked for clarifications regarding any concepts becoming complex. Describe any feedback you received or any specific interactions you had
During the week, the discussions on the forum with my other classmates were so active, and it felt good when I got to share my thoughts and brainstorm together with others. Of much importance was the kind of evaluation my classmates did for me. Not only was I able to grasp some of the concepts better, but also, through their evaluation, I was able to refine my comprehension of the material. Also, the discussion with my classmates helped me understand different points of view and solve problems in ways that I'd never developed before, thereby allowing me to experience quality learning processes. Describe your feelings and attitudes I did not know what to feel besides the sense of fascination and fear of discovering asymptotic analysis. I surely felt that sense of achievement in getting a hold of the difficult concepts, but it was intimidating and challenging to follow the deep reasoning process of mathematics. Despite that, I carried a positive attitude and was determined to go through the challenges by drawing strength and support from the standpoint of persevering and working together. Describe what you learned This week, I had a deeper understanding of asymptotic analysis and its importance for assessing piste performance. In the course, I acquired the ability to identify lowest and highest order bounds by employing the big O notion, and I also understood the consequences of different
algorithmic complexities on the time efficiency of computations. Lastly, I also upgraded my ability to solve problems by using this knowledge on real-world problems. One important thing that you are thinking about about the activity is: One crucial realization that I made during this activity is that there are two sides to an algorithm's coin: theoretical aspect and practical implications when judging the reliability of an algorithm
