Osteoarthritis
Arthritis is a common illness characterized by inflammation of one or more joints (synovial joints). It
several varieties of arthritis, but osteoarthritis is one of the most frequent. In Anatomy and Physiology (OpenStax, 2018), we learn that osteoarthritis is linked to aging and ffwear and tear,ff which describes how flexible tissue (articular cartilage) near the ends of bones wears down over time, causing gradual degeneration. The articular cartilage is a white elastic tissue that covers the extreme section of the femur and acetabulum, according to the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. It allows bones to glide against each other easily. Articular cartilage is a useful connective tissue with viscous and elastic qualities that prevents friction between the bones of the synovium. The synovial fluid is stored in order to lubricate and circulate nutrients to the joints. When the joints are at rest, synovial fluid is kept inside the articular cartilage in the same way that water is stored inside a sponge (Ulrich-Vinther, et al, 2003). With the exception of cartilage breakdown. Osteoarthritis, on the other hand, can affect the entire joint. It affects the bone and causes the connective tissues that hold the joint together as well as connect the muscle and bone to deteriorate (Pereira, et al, 2015).
The effect of osteoarthritis on human services has indeed been highlighted by the journal Rheumatology, which has expressed widespread concern about the condition. As a result, people with this illness suffer from worry, dread, sadness, as well as other mental health issues, all of which are clearly connected to aging. Pain, physical limitations, a lack of appropriate treatment, and steadily increasing pharmacotherapy can all have a significant impact on a person's mental illness and life quality. Sleep disturbances, financial concerns, and frequent social isolation, such as withdrawal from social life, neighborhood, and work activities, are all common symptoms of osteoarthritis. Treatment aims to keep the patient under control and provide assistance, but it is incurable. Medical examinations, periodic lab testing, and X-rays can all be used to make a diagnosis. You can stay with it for a long time (Jinks, et al, 2007).
Furthermore, osteoarthritis affects the joints of the vertebral column, including the spine joint, hip joint or acetabulum, knee joint or tibiofemoral joint, metatarsophalangeal joints (fingers and toes), and pollex (thumb). The facets joints between both the vertebra are affected by osteoarthritis of the spine.Facet joint arthritis, component joint disease, and facet disease are all terms used to describe this condition When the cartilage of the joints and discs in the neck and lower back breaks down, osteoarthritis of the spine develops. It can occasionally place pressure on nerves outside of the spinal column, causing pain in the arms and/or legs (OpenStax, 2018). According to Pereira et al. (2015), there are four stages of osteoarthritis:
Stage 1: minor joint wear and tear with little to no pain in the area affected; stage 2: minor joint wear and tear with little to no pain in the area
