MY DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT UNIT 2 CPH 2212 Infectious DiseaSes
Hello!
One of the greatest threats to human beings is communicable diseases. However, the public health services are preparing a lot to address the issue of the outbreak that arises. They can do this with the help of policy implantations such as preventive measures, how to deal with quarantine, and diseases
treatment methods.
Cholera is one example of an infectious disease. "Cholera was prevalent in the U.s. in the 1800s, before modern water and sewage treatment systems eliminated its spread by contaminated water" (Dunkin, n.d.). Cholera is an acute bacteria infectious disease, a diarrheal illness caused when an intestine is infected by the toxigenic bacterium Vibrio cholera serogroup 01 or 0139. Approximately 2.9 million cases and 95,000 deaths of cholera worldwide (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). Furthermore, someone gets this infection through the consumption of contaminated food or water that is been used by an infected individual with the bacterium Vibrio cholera. The symptoms are watery diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration and can be severe. Public health should sensitize people about cholera through physical meetings, cinema shows on TVs, articles, newspapers, and social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and others. In preventing cholera, the communities ought to maintain high standards of sanitation, availability of clean water, and vaccination (Dunkin, n.d.).
The threat of the outbreak of infectious diseases such as Cholera can provoke the implementation of public health control measures such as quarantine. However, quarantine and isolation are implanted to reduce the outbreaks of infectious diseases. And then, both processes have an impact on the society that might have the benefit or disadvantages Quarantine is to protect and rebuild the public health and is considered one of its benefits. Quarantine is to restrict the mobility of people who are exposed to a contagious disease but who may or may not become infected, hence this increases their chances of infection. People under quarantine and isolation can be exposed to physical and psychological problems. Therefore, this might result in people developing fear, anxiety, boredom, and anger due to the association of stress to quarantine and isolation. "Those affected by quarantine are likely to report distress due to fear and risk perceptions" (Psychosocial impacts of quarantine, n.d.). Whenever the health issue is remedied in the society aftermath it could lead to stigmatization and discrimination against those who were infected. My take on this matter is that the government should be very courteous regarding the quarantine process by carefully handling it with love, kindness, empathy, and understanding, and by establishing standard facilities to isolate or quarantine people separately. Emploved experience health professionals and adeguate hvgiene and safety first to ensure that there i no further spread of diseases. Standard vaccination is required at the appropriate time to prevent further transmission of disease outbreaks.
If I would personally be the subject of isolation or quarantine, at first I will be distressed and boredom but gradually I will cope because I will embark on physical activity
