Communication in Educational Administration

Educational administration is regarded as the process of integrating the appropriate human and material resources that are made available and made effective for achieving the purposes of a programme of an educational institution (Kashyap, nd). According to James Reid (200), it's function is to get members of an organization to participate toward a common objective. which aids in the improvement of teaching and learning and influences the development of the school's mission and vision. Communication is a crucial component of interpersonal relationships, collaborative efforts in goal setting, and group development and cohesiveness in any organization. It is the process by which information, ideas, questions, directions, feelings, and purposes are communicated, every communication act must have a purpose or an objective (James-Reid, 2000). The communication process in our education system is too long and slow as a result of the bureaucratic system that the organizations follow (Banton ,2022). The term "bureaucracy" is frequently criticized by researchers and regarded negatively since it implies that procedures take precedence over communication efficiency (James-Reid, 2000). For instance, teachers have to wait for months before their written request for leave of absence is approved by the Ministry of Education. Education Administration must, therefore, invest in effective communication methods and channels. We live in a technological age, and as a result, some of the barriers that slow down the process of communication need to be broken down to create efficiency, to prevent misunderstanding, and make teachers more productive in their role (Eric.edu, 2003) Too often, administrative decisions are made at the national and school levels without consulting the staff, leaving them feeling alienated. In the past, as a teacher and a parent on the school plant, I've noticed that students are frequently informed by the administration of decisions made before or alongside the teachers. When a situation like this occurs, teachers are less motivated to work because they feel undervalued and unappreciated. Additionally, many subordinates withhold information from superiors because they are dissatisfied because they are unable to participate in the decision-making process. Decision-making affects everyone that works within the education system, and everyone should be involved in some way (Lunenburg& Ornstein 2012). According to the bureaucratic system, the hierarchy of authority should helps coordinate activities, maintains authority, and serves a communication function that guides decision makers (Lunenburg & Ornstein, 2012).However , Lunenburg & Ornstein, (2012) also state that teachers should have more power to make important decisions about how the school is run and how teaching occurs.
