Infectious Disease and Public Health

Research and discuss an infectious disease that poses the threat of a pandemic and may require isolation or quarantine efforts. Provide a short overview of the disease including etiology, transmission, and public health characteristics of the disease. Infectious diseases are illnesses caused by organisms like virus, bacteria, parasites or fungus Some infectious diseases are transmissible from person to person. Some are spread by insects and other animals. Persons can also get other infectious diseases by eating contaminated food or drinking polluted water (Infectious disease ,2022) The Ebola virus is a deadly disease with occasional outbreaks primarily on the African continent. The Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976 with the most complex outbreak taking place in West Africa in 2014 and 2016. In 2016 there were a total of 28,616 cases of EVD and 11,310 deaths among counties of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Additionally, there were a total of 36 cases and 15 deaths outside of Africa (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). Scientists are unsure of the origins of the Ebola virus. They believe that the Eloba virus is animal-borne because bats and nonhuman primates are the plausible sources of the infection. This is based on the similarities with other dieses. The virus first infected humans through direct contact with animal blood, bodily fluids, and tissues. The Ebola virus is then transmitting to other persons by direct contact with the body fluids. People can contract the virus through sexual contact with someone who has EVD or who has recovered from it. After recovering from the disease, the virus might persist in certain bodily fluids, such as sperm (Who.int ,2022) Additional humans and animals were affected by direct contact with infected people and animals that are sick, dead or alive. This is possible if a person comes into contact with infectious body fluids or contaminated things. Apes, monkeys, duikers, and humans are just a few of the numerous animals that the virus can infect and spread to (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). Fever, stomach problem such as vomiting and diarrhea, headaches and muscular or joint pain and exhaustion, are the most common symptoms. Ebola's incubation period spans from 2 to 21 days, with an average of 8 to 10 days. Because of its ability to identify low quantities of virus, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing is most commonly employed to diagnose Ebola virus. After recovering from Ebola, survivors may face lasting symptoms. Tiredness, muscle aches. eye and vision issues, and stomach pain are all possible symptoms (Center for Disease Control and Prevention 2021). There are two Ebola vaccines on the market, with the oldest one being called Zabdeno (Ad26.ZEBOV) and the second being Mvabea (MVA-BN-Filo). Though this vaccine is available, the Ebola virus is still causing panic in African countries such as Congo. As a matter of fact, Congo had an outbreak in April of 2022 where 257 cases been traced to the Ebola vaccines (Center for Disease Control and Prevention 2021).. If the Ebola virus
