Discussion Forum Unit 8 Forum discussion Unit 8 Reproductive system Using the external resource of PubMed (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/), find an article that identifies a clinical disorder that represents a fundamental disturbance of the structural or functional integrity of the male or female reproductive system and its components. Introduce the clinical disorder to your readers, describe the impact on community health and demonstrate your understanding of the material presented in Chapter 27 by correctly defining and using at least 4 anatomic and/or physiologic terms related to the structural and/or functional organization of the human reproductive system as related to the clinical scenario.
Your discussion must be at least 250 words in length, detailing your thoughts and position using 2 references from the readings for support. Also be sure to pose 1-2 well thought out questions from which your colleagues can formulate a response or generate further discussion. Be sure to cite any references using APA format.
Endometriosis The article for this discussion of the disorder called endometriosis is advanced by Fourquet et al. (2013). Approximately 10% of the world's women population suffers from this condition (Fourquet et al., 2013). Endometriosis is a condition that arises when the tissues of the inner lining of the endometrium develop outside of the uterus (OpenStax College, 2018). This condition allows for an irregular menstrual cycle and is very painful; about 3 million women in the USA suffer from this condition. Females with endometriosis have a higher risk of infertility and reduced quality of life due to the pain and associated discomfort of the prolonged and irregular menstrual cycle (OpenStax College (2018). Individuals with endometriosis may have lower chances of getting pregnant as the zygote may obstruct sperms from reaching the eggs for fertilization. If there is a chance that fertilization occurs, there is an increased chance of miscarriage (OpenStax College, 2018). Fourquet et al. (2013) argued that endometriosis has a significant impact on community health by reducing lower social interactions, reduced quality family time, and minimized other social determinants of health. It often leads to poor health and other physical including mental health Endometrioses are treated by medication and surgical procedures. The drug is mainly used to manage pain, such as Ibuprofen and naproxen, and a laparoscope is used to remove the endometrial tissue (Moradi, Parker, Sneddon, Lopez & Ellwood, 2014). Hormone therapy such as supplements may also reduce the pain and nutrition such as high fiber diet, low fat and magnesium-rich food products have been known to increase the chances for less pain (OpenStax College, 2018).
