1)List of the 6 major barriers and examples
1. Jargon: Specific language of a class, profession or groups of the underworld, which is meant to favor the
closeness of internal communication, but also close towards random strangers.
Ex: Dialects are a great example of jargon being used by citizens to stop being understood by people who came
from outside locations.
2. Sexist or racist language: Language that harbor notes of sexist or racist hatred towards other parties.
Ex: Objectifying women or judging any human by their skin color wether they are white or black.
3. Doublespeak: It is the means of communicating in a manner that does not show the whole truth, reporting it in a
different way, ignoring information or adding false information.
Ex: When a project is being discussed to alot of people at different times and the last person that is being told is
unaware of what originally happened.
4. Euphemism: To replace a specific term or word and alter it in a bad way, most likely influenced by religious or
moral considerations.
Ex: To use the term word mad or crazy as a way to describe a person with issues or problems.
5. Cliche: They are over-used expressions, they are used as idiomatic expressions to strip concepts to the bone,
without it being generalized and abusing them in a bad way
Ex: Steak is amazing. Yes, it is really good when cooked medium rare. But that is not a measure if all steaks taste
amazing.
6. Slang: Terms that have as their object the world of taboos are other terms: like drugs, sex, crime
Ex: My favourite genre of music is known as Hip-hop and it is full of slang terms.
2)Include at least one example that you yourself have used in the past and how this hampered your ability to
communicate. Try to think of examples that were used in a business setting.
Slang:We often use our own personal slang terms or words to remain certain things hidden and not understood.
Doublespeak: when i was in college ive seen students tell other students stuff falsely that the professor said to get
an advantage.
