Mobile devices, such as tablets, smartphones, and cell phones, have significantly transformed the healthcare industry in a number of ways.
According to a report published by the Brookings Institution in 2016, mobile devices have enabled more efficient and convenient communication between patients and healthcare providers, allowing for remote consultations and follow-up visits. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who live in rural or underserved areas, or for those who have mobility issues or disabilities that make it difficult for them to physically visit a healthcare facility.
In addition to improving communication, mobile devices have also facilitated the collection and dissemination of health data. Patients can now track their own health indicators, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and sleep patterns, using wearable devices or mobile apps, and share this information with their healthcare providers in real time. This can help healthcare providers monitor their patients' health more closely and identify potential issues early on.
One finding from the report that I found particularly significant was the potential for mobile devices to improve medication adherence. Many patients struggle to take their medications as prescribed, which can lead to negative health outcomes and increased healthcare costs. Mobile devices can help by providing reminders to take medications, and by enabling patients to communicate with their healthcare providers about any issues they may be having with their treatment regimen.
In my region, technology is influencing healthcare in a number of ways. For example, many healthcare providers are now using electronic health records (EHRs) to store and access patient information, which can improve the accuracy and efficiency of patient care. Telemedicine is also becoming more common, with healthcare providers offering virtual consultations to patients via video conferencing.
One type of technology that I think would greatly assist healthcare in my neighborhood is the use of artificial intelligence (Al) and machine learning algorithms to analyze large amounts of health data. This could help healthcare providers identify patterns and trends that might not be apparent to the human eye and potentially lead to the development of more effective treatment strategies. It could also help reduce the workload on healthcare providers, allowing them to focus on providing high-quality care to their patients.
Overall, mobile devices have had a transformative impact on the healthcare industry, and will likely continue to do so in the future. By enabling more efficient and convenient communication, improving the collection and dissemination of health data, and helping to improve medication adherence, they are helping to improve the overall quality of healthcare and make it more accessible to a wider range of individuals.
