IB Physics Standard Level Course Overview

IB PHYSICS STANDARD LEVEL 2016-2017 Year 1 Mr. Chris Cook, Room 3223 christopher.cook2@apsva.us Physics Help: Generals Periods (with a pass), Zero Period in Room 3223 Lunch Lab (W days) in 3002 or by appointment Year 2 Ms. Kate Miller, Room 3003 kate.miller@apsva.us Physics is the most fundamental of the sciences in that it seeks to explain the basic features of the natural universe, primarily the interactions between matter and energy, in mathematical terms. In this course, we will study the IB Physics Standard Level (SL) course material in order to prepare for the IB test at the end of the second year. Students will learn the tools necessary to conduct meaningful physics experiments to discover and support their conceptual understandings. Students will complete Internal Assessments that are monitored by the International Baccalaureate Organization and conduct an inter-disciplinary "IB Group 4" Project. Textbooks: Physics, 2nd Edition by Gregg Kerr, Nancy Kerr, and Paul Ruth Physics, 6th Edition by Douglas Giancoli Physics for the IB Diploma: Study Guide, 2014 Edition by Tim Kirk Class websites: The link to the class website is on the Washington-Lee website under Academics>Science. Grades will be updated at least weekly Synergy.
