REFLECTIVE MASK AND PAPER 2 Reflective Mask and Paper "Fun is laughter, excitement, style letting go, running wild. Fun is play and play is fun, individually it varies some. Fun is a healthy thing you see, it strengthens hearts, it's trouble free. It can come out of nothing that's for sure, fun recycles, fun endures. Take a daily dose of fun, spread it 'round for everyone." (pg.18) As a young child I was extremely active. My parents enrolled me into tons of recreational activities which ranged from various sports to the creative arts. I genuinely enjoyed most of the programs I was placed in; some I would rather not experience or endure again. Regardless of all the positive experiences I encountered, there were a handful of negative ones. A common thought or strand when I reflect back is that I truly enjoyed gaining new experiences and meeting new friends. I was a very sociable child and my experiences supported this part of my character. Recreation, through being active and playing games, are fundamental to our human growth and physical development as well as gaining and learning the value of positive relationships. Looking back and reflecting on the significance of my childhood recreational activities, two scenarios stand out more than the rest as related to the guidelines of one experience I remember fondly and another experience one I would not care to repeat. Without a doubt, hands down, my absolute favourite and most positive recreational experience was when I went to an Arts Umbrella Summer Camp when I was in grade 5. I was in heaven. It was a fun summer camp where we played and dabbled with all different types of art every other class. We painted pictures, sketched, made pottery, sculpted with plasticine, drew portraits, collaged - just to name some of the wide array of activities presented. Ever since I was a young child art was a relaxing independent activity, it soothed my soul. I could sit for hours drawing pictures of bumble bees, flowers, my family, girls with pigtails and beach scenes while

As a young child, I would wake up, make my own cereal breakfast, head downstairs to my lair, turn on a Disney VHS movie, set up my colouring supplies and start creating. I felt I had the creative license to do whatever I wished, and I thrived within that scenario. Arts Umbrella was a true positive experience for me because it pushed me to be creative. I was able to not need to talk out loud but allow my thoughts and imagination flow into whatever piece I was working on. The instructors I remember were very upbeat, bubbly and excited to have us there to create based on our imagination. Their energy seemed infectious and it made me even more ecstatic and excited
