Exploring Moral Perspectives and Their Impact on Society

Hello everyone! My name is Abarna, and I am a second-year student completing a major in Economic studies at queens. I currently live in Toronto but would be in Kingston if it not for the pandemic. My favourite season is the summer, and I enjoy growing plants, swimming and hiking in my free time. I took my first Philosophy courses in my first year at Queens and enjoyed them. I am excited to develop my understanding of Philosophical studies because the material answers and elaborates essential questions asked by many. I would include myself as one of the many, especially during a current period of social unrest like this era. I think a course like "moral issues" will improve my evaluation skills and ability to consider multiple perspectives. Issues that invoke the topic of morality also prompt the examination of the existence and definitions of righteous and unjust behaviour. I am interested in understanding the variety of perspectives on moral issues and recognizing their impacts on communities. The study of moral issues will hopefully allow me to develop my personal views while also understanding those of others. Division in opinions about morality have always existed and will continue to exist, and I assume the variety stems from an individual's place in the world and experiences. I believe that acceptance, tolerance, mindfulness and transparency are some of the most valuable teachings when striving to be a morally righteous member of society. However, I am eager to possibly have my thoughts changed and definitely learn more. : )
