Key Management Concepts in Organisational Performance

Assignment 102615354 Shubh Sablok Assessment 3 - Individual Essay (Introduction to Management) Throughout this unit quite a lot of concepts and topics related to management have been discussed thoroughly which we are going to use somewhere there in our future jobs. Out of those number of concepts I've chosen five concepts which are key to run any organisation/business/company from my personal work experience. These are Organising, Leadership, HRM, Motivation, Decision Making. Organisational performance or otherwise known as 'goals/objectives' is usually defined as what a business expects to accomplish over a specific period. Almost always taking into consideration the inputs and outputs. Organising is the second step in P-O-L-C framework of Management and is one of the most important of all four management functions. It is the process of placing all the workforces and other resources to work together to fulfil the stated goals of the organisation. So, at first in organising most of the managers choose to use work specialisation as their first and foremost thing to apply in their workspace because it helps their employees to work more efficiently. And along with that departmentalisation of jobs is done to group the jobs in different sections so that its easy to divide them between the employees later which makes the work specialisation easy as specialised workers can be assigned their work easily without any hassle. Like right now I work at Macca's and here every manager has a single speciality job like there is different manager for rostering, different manager just for overnights and different manager for equipment maintenance and they all are managed by one single manager that is the restaurant manager. And the crew is managed by all the managers in whole but everything goes by the line as to reach the restaurant manager we need to approach our department's manager and then our message gets conveyed to the restaurant manager so one chain of command gets built through this framework. This highly defined framework makes the work simple for managers so that they just need to focus on what they are assigned to do without any fuss and can do their job nicely and this is possible only because of Organising. Along with that organising also helps the manager to define the nature of their firm to be mechanistic or organic. And its totally upon the managers that what they choose as mechanistic organisations are more stable and rigid and on the other hand organic organisations are more flexible and looser which helps in making wide spans of control and free flow of information inside the organisation. After organising there comes this point when managers face a lot of problems and dilemmas whether they'd be with their partners, creditors, customers, shareholders or their own employees and when they must make some decisions to get out of those problems. This process of Decision Making is vital when managers are trying to attain the goals and objectives of their organisation or are competing with their competitors in the market.
