Examples: YouTube, Facebook, LinedIn, Twitter, Google+ Social media Application Providers: Are the companies that operate the social media sites. Facebook, witter, LinkedIn and Google are all SM application providers. They create features and functions of the site, and they compete with one another for the attention of user communities and SM sponsors. SMIS components: Have 5 components: · Hardware · Software · Data · Procedures · People Hardware: Desktops, laptops, smart phones, iPads, html5 devices.
Software: IOS, Android or Windows applications, to read and submit data and to add and remove connected to communities and other users. Data: Content data: Consists of both data and responses to data that are contributed by users and SM sponsors. Connection data: Consists of data about relationships. On Facebook, the relationships to your friends are connection data. The fact that you've liked particular organisations is also connection data. Procedures: Informal, evolving and socially orientated. People: Users of social media do what they want to do depending on their goals and their personalities. SM Sponsors, cannot be so casual. Anyone who contributes to an organisations SM site or who uses his or her position in a company to speak for an organisation needs to be trained on both SMIS user procedures as well as the organisations social networking policy.
