Introduction In this report we discuss what SDGs are and why they are used, what impact it has on a business and how it affects decision making. We will go in depth on the company Peta-Marron and identify one SDG that is relevant to the organisation and how they can improve this to achieve the SDG goal and which stakeholders are impacted by this change and how sustainable and competitive the business become in these decisions. What are the SDGs The sustainable development goals are enabled to help not only individuals but also the environment. The goals include tackling the issue of poor people, improve systems for individuals such as a better education and improving the health systems of some countries, reduce the gap between the rich and the poor and achieve monetary growth whether this is through new businesses. These goals are designed to make the environment a sustainable place including looking after delicate environments such as waterways and woods (UNDESA 2019). The United Nations have 17 sustainable development goals and some of these goals can include the improvement of education, equality between genders and having basic needs such as water and hygiene. These goals don't only apply to poor countries. Here in Australia even though we are a wealthy country we still don't meet all the 17 SDGs. For example we are not meeting the goal of being sustainable with energy and we don't use resources sustainably which results in production being inadequate (Thwaites & Kestin 2015). We need to do more as a society and the government need to put policies in place to achieve these goals. The reason the United Nations have looked to achieve these goals is it can improve the quality of life for people under the poverty line and give them more opportunities to achieve in the future, it wants communities to become more stable and have more options so individuals can work and develop more as a country and countries can become more efficient and sustainable when looking after their land such as having clean waterways or using precious resources to build things or to just achieve basic needs including food and water. What impact can business have on the achievement of the SDGs The SDGs become a very important tool for businesses. Jopp (2021) explains that Businesses have huge pulling power over entities such as the government and the general society and businesses actually can learn new ideas from implementing these SDGs because it can tackle the issues right now
