Part 1: Public Opinion i. Jamie Arthur - "Marketing is a technique of getting into customers head whether it be in an ethical form or unethical, but the motive is to click the product in customer's mind." -She has this definition in her mind regarding marketing because her dad is from sales background and she has a bit knowledge regarding this concept of marketing as she has seen her father since childhood selling products because what a salesman does is get into person's mind to convince him to buy his product and a salesman can do anything whether it be ethical according to business or its unprofessional the ultimate motive is to sell the product to the customers. ii. -Harry Gomez - "Manipulation of wider range of people to influence them towards the product without thinking about the customer who's buying it." -Harry had a bad experience with an insurance company as the policy was sold to him by showing ads about full remunerations and 100fi cover of healthcare and accident covers but when he was in need of that insurance money he didn't even get how much he required even the medicines were also not covered and this marketing technique proved out to be negative for him as he didn't get what he was promised and what he was shown. So, it proves that marketing does not always proves out be positive for a person rather if not done ethically or if full information is provided it can lead to negative impacts. iii. -Gaurav Kundra - "An art of drawing public's attention towards your product and towards its qualities and benefits is called marketing." -He is a marketer as well in a local company in India and he is good at making out strategies for marketing products through ads and according to him marketing is drawing the public attention because that's what he does to market his products to sell them out to people. By telling out the benefits and pros of the products they sell their goods to general public which makes this definition relevant according to his trade. As we can see three of them had different views about marketing due to the experiences they three had with marketing were different for all three of them and so Marketing proves out to have a huge number of definitions in terms of common people but lets see what the expert associations or marketers have to say about definitions of Marketing. Part 2: Formal Definitions i. American Marketing Association - "The activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that have values for customers, clients, partners and society at large." According to sources it is one of the best definitions given for marketing yet. What it says is that Marketing is an activity rather than being an outcome. Also, it's an institution and process which is used in reference to various tools, practices, approaches and mechanisms that we would use in a marketing role.
