PROFESSIONAL REFLECTION 1. Workview For me, work is the beginning of my career, I am fuelled by the desire to begin building my career, holding career progression over monetary gain. With progression being linked closely with my equalitarian values, with the intention to provide services to an organization with similar values. My ideal role with my current standpoint on work would be one where I can use my practices customer service and technical skills, for a company which allows me to work on projects which align closely with my beliefs. 2. Professional Purpose and My Studies As a young IT professional looking to promote eradication of stigmas associated with age, sex, race and other diversifying factors, I seek a career within an organization that adheres to similar beliefs, while allowing me to work directly with projects which diminish the effects of segregation due to so- cio-ethnic factors. My studies thus far have given me a good grounding to build upon, including delving into ethical the- ories which influence daily decision making, and more technical problem solving. Both aspects have built both my values as a citizen of the world, and confidence based on my aptitude for problem solving. I would like to take both further as I move from my academic career to my practical one, to find a role which aligns with my wholistic professional skillset. 3. Influences a) Two Influences Based on the systems theory outlined by (McMahon & Patton, 1995), I believe my individual values (or beliefs) and aptitudes have had the greatest shaping force on both my work view and my profes- sional purpose. My beliefs and values, including strong equalitarian views is one of the internal frameworks which guides my career choices in a more customer-focused direction. While my apti- tude for problem solving allows me to seek more technically focussed environments. My fluidity be- tween technical concepts and layman's terms has allowed me to be an effective bridge between stakeholders and a technical project, making me an ideal point of liaise on a variety of projects. This links closely with my SIC personality based on Holland's (2019) theory being an effective guideline to future career choices, which has promoted my career progression as a front-end technical sup- port specialist. b) Theoretical Explanation Brian Dik (2014) explores the relationship between Holland's (2019) person-environment fit system in how it can apply to a greater purpose and meaning within a workplace. Finding a work environment where one feels positive emotions such as emotional fulfilment promotes greater levels of creative problem solving and job satisfaction, providing the foundation individuals require to feel a sense of meaning from their work (Dik, et al., 2015). Thus, by maintaining a career in an organization which matches my key work view and purpose influences, I am also ensuring a higher level of work satisfaction and success within the organization.
