SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY oFTECHNOLOGY SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING CVE40002~S1~2024 Assignment 1, Part B For the double storey two house of Assignment 1a , your task is to prepare a member schedule for the members shown in the attached structural engineering plans, using the span tables in the supplements of AS 1684.2. Assume that the wind class for the site of the double storey house is N3 wind class. It is recommended that you provide two member schedules, one for Upper Roof framing and second member schedule for the Lower Roof and First Floor framing. Make any other reasonable assumptions you consider necessary. To help you in the task, use the attached structural drawings (as a proposal) prepared by the structural engineer for the upper roof framing, lower roof and first floor framing plans. The structural layouts are only proposed layouts. If you see the requirement for any extra members, design and include them in your submission. The location of the truncated girder trusses from the upper roof truss manufacturer has been marked for your reference. You are not required to design any roof trusses including the girder trusses. The truss manufacturer has specified a truss spacing of 600 mm c/c. Adopt MGP10 and F17 seasoned hardwood timber grade, as suitable, for all your members. If any of the members cannot be designed in timber (i.e. timber section size is larger than the sizes shown in the span tables) then write the following phrase 'to be designed in steel' opposite its mark in the member schedule. A sample of the member schedule is provided in page 3 of the assignment sheet. A number of members in the house have been entered as steel in the member schedules, so you may ignore these members. You will need to download AS 1684.2 N3 SUPP8 for F17 Seasoned Hardwood and AS 1684.2 N3 SUPP4for MGP10 Seasoned Softwood to access and use the span tables. Show the working of the timber size selection by referencing the table number, span length, floor or roof load width and other relevant design parameters for all members. See the example design on page 6 of this document. (15 Marks) Kamiran Abdouka Page 1 of 6
Your assignment should include the following: 1. A printed version of the two preliminary structural drawings with all member sizes filled in on the member schedules (i.e. lower roof and first floor framing plan and the upper roof framing plan). The structural drawings are included in Pages 3 and 4 of this brief. 2. All design workings required for the sizing of all the members. Refer to sample working on page 6 of this document. 3. Design working should include references to all clauses and tables from the different Australian Standards (or other documents if applicable) used in the design. Please note the following: 1. STUDENTS SHOULD KEEP A COPY OF ALL ASSESSMENT THAT IS SUBMITTED. 2. Students are to complete the assignment in groups of maximum 2 students per group. Individual submission will also be
