Navigating Motivation and Leadership Challenges in Organisational Restructures

ORG20003: ORGANISATIONAL BEHAIVOUR Assignment 3: Reflective Essay Topic 3: In my own working life, I have encountered a few instances where my own level of motivation has been challenged. This being challenged by not only my managers but also challenged in my own mind. I have found myself whilst in my own work struggling to find motivation to keep to the level of work I strive myself to perform at. A very recent example of this was when I was told that I would be taking over as supervisor for another area and team within the warehouse I work in. This situation was particularly challenging as it was in the midst of a organisational restructure of the operational leaders in the business. During this restructure my own role was up for potential redundancy and meant that my position in the business was being challenged. Whilst in the final stages of the restructure I was made aware that my position in the business was safe and that I would not be retrenched. This was a particular relief as outside of work there was a dwindling jobs market with COVIDfi19 meaning a lot of organisations were not hiring. What challenged me even more so during this time was the fact that once I was told that I was not to be retrenched and to depart the business I was told that I would now be looking after a second team and portion of the warehouse. This particular team and added responsibility would effectively triple my work load and mean that I had to split my focus across multiple areas and change my working hours. At first, I believed that my manager was working with an autocratic leadership style, in that he simply told me what my job would now consist of without any further discussion or input by myself. What added to this was the fact that I would not be paid any more even though my responsibility was doubled. Having now dealt with the changes in my working life and how it has changed for three months it has changed my view on the situation and I have adapted to the way of thinking that my manager had but at first did not share with me. At first it felt like a direct dictatorship that did not allow for any discussion. What added to this was the fact that I was told I was safe and would still have a job. It would have seemed inconsiderate to question the decision considering I would still have a job and a large number of people sharing my job position would lose theirs. Having moved past the idea that I was being burdened with extra work, I have come to realise that the decision to
