Surat An-Nisaa 4:1 O Mankind, fear (and be dutiful to) your Lord, who has created you from a single person (Adam), and from it created its mate (Hawa), and from the two of them (Adam and Hawa) spread abroad so many men and women. Fear Allah, in whose name you appeal to one another, and be mindful of (and revere) the wombs (that bore you). Indeed, Allah is ever watching over you. Allah elevates the status of women severally in this Ayah: . First and foremost, Lady Hawa and women in general were created as mates and companions to men. One cannot do without the other - [Your Lord, who has created you from a single person (Adam), and from it created its mate (Hawa)] . The continuity of mankind depends on both the man and the woman - [from the two of them (Adam and Hawa) spread abroad so many men and women]. . We must respect the womb (The Woman) that gave birth to us - [and be mindful of (and revere) the wombs (that bore you)]. . Allah has given mankind responsibilities, one of those is being mindful of our duties to the wombs that bore us - our respect, honour and duty to our mothers.
