Growth Hormone lecture: Growth: · Tissue growth can arise as a result of: o Increased cell size o Increased cell number (division) o Cell differentiation . All growth processes are anabolic- they all require the synthesis of new material. Environmental regulation: 45 40 Growth is promoted when the nutritional environment is favourable. Growth is also regulated by time. If we look at the average lifespan we see periods of rapid growth interspersed by periods of slow/ minimal growth and even negative growth once a person reaches old age. Infancy and adolescence- rapid growth Adulthood- minimal growth Old age- negative growth . We need growth to occur in all tissue at the same rate at the same time within an entire organism.
