Introduction This is a submission for a research document and project outcome and documentation which I collaborated with Jordey Caprino, Jeroen Scheper, Lili Ullrich and Marie van Puyenbroeck on during the Visual Culture Minor+ of 2018- 2019. This document contains my documentation of my eventual own project and visual essay I wrote prior to the project. The Research question I eventually chose for my research and project was the formal academic research question. 1
Research question Formal academic research question: How can visual work be created which exposes and transforms the presently (as of October 2018) domineering phenomenological being of white western capitalist patriarchal heteronormative Christian supremacy and thereof resulting power relations which create identities within propaganda in popular western/occidental visual culture within an ontology based on the notion of being-with? We found that the above is a lot of words, is overly abstract and is a touch stuffy and pretentious (well we are art students for this project, so we are allowed to be a touch pretentious). We decided to apply a more plainly spoken research question. This can be more appropriate to our situation which we find ourselves in, our task at hand and may lead our actions and reflections towards a successful result. Plain spoken, Ordinary English research question: How can we create an installation/collection of conversation pieces/discursive objects that exposes and transforms the use of the dominant mindset of white western capitalist patriarchal heteronormative consciousness and power relations in the creation of identities within propaganda in western popular visual culture? In addition, Nikki Vieler wanted to simply pose a more humane question, so that all humans can join this group in its pursuit of a more humane world. In his eyes, it's the least we can do ... Humane research question: How can we live together, even with some really unpleasant things around and within us? 2
