students on the soccer team and 14 students on the volleyball team.
Only 3 students play on all three teams, but 5 students play on
both soccer and volleyball, 4 play on both volleyball and
basketball, and 7 play on both soccer and basketball. What is the
total number of students on the three teams?
i) Illustrate your answer on a Venn diagram. [3 marks]
ii) Use the Principle of Inclusion/Exclusion to calculate your
answer.
b) In many board games you roll two dice (each numbered 1
to 6). What is the probability of rolling a double or a sum of at
least 8? [3 marks]
c) The Senior Volleyball team wins 90% of their games and the
Junior Volleyball team wins 80% of their games. Both teams always
play on the same day.
i) What is the probability that both teams will lose on a given
day? [2 marks]
ii) What is the probability that only one team will win on a given
day? [3 marks]
