Biography

I am a former High School Chemistry teacher from New Jersey. I am passionate about helping students be successful and motivated in the STEM field. I love problem solving and teaching.
In college I tutored for General Chemistry 1 & 2 and was a Learning Assistant for General Chemistry 1 & 2. I received the Praxis "Recognition of Achievement" Award on my teaching certification tests in both Chemistry and General Science for outstanding achievement.

Given each of the following sets of values for an ideal gas, calculate the unknown quantity.
a. $P=1.01 \mathrm{atm} ; V=? ; n=0.00831 \mathrm{mol}$ $T=25^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$
b. $P=? \mathrm{atm} ; V=602 \mathrm{mL}$ $n=8.01 \times 10^{-3} \mathrm{mol} ; T=310 . \mathrm{K}$
c. $P=0.998$ atm; $V=629 \mathrm{mL} ; n=?$ mol; $T=35^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$

Suppose the temperature of the gas in Figure $\mathrm{P} 10.2(\mathrm{b})$ increases from $200 \mathrm{K}$ to $400 \mathrm{K}$ but that the pressure on the piston remains constant. Does the position of the piston change? If so, by how much does the volume of the gas change?

Chemistry: An Atoms-Focused Approach

Suppose the same quantity of gas from Problem 10.5 was added to the cylinder in Figure $\mathrm{P} 10.5$ at constant temperature and constant pressure.
a. In which direction would the piston move?
b. By how much would the volume of the gas in the cylinder change?
