Biography

I graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering from the US Naval Academy and proceeded immediately to the University of Minnesota, where I was awarded an MBA. I served in the US Navy for 20 years as a pilot and retired in 2019. I now split my time as a pilot for a major US airline and working as a substitute teacher and tutor. I have always enjoyed teaching and instructing beginning in grad school as a high school math/science tutor, then as a flight instructor in the US Navy, and now as a volunteer tutor with Oklahoma City libraries and I was recently hired as a substitute teacher with the local school system.

An insurance company offers four different deductible levels $-$ none, low, medium, and high-for its homeowner's policyholders and three different levels-low, medium, and high-for its automobile policyholders. The accompanying table gives proportions for the various categories of policyholders who have both types of insurance. For example, the proportion of individuals with both low homeowner's deductible and low auto deductible is .06$(6 \%$ of all such individuals).

Suppose an individual having both types of policies is randomly selected.
