Biography

Mathematics is an art that teaches us how to analyze information, think critically, and problem-solve. It's also a subject that many tend to fear, dislike, or consider their weakness. I enjoy seeing students overcome their aversion to math and realize how capable they truly are. Understanding a difficult math topic (specially after a struggle phase) is one of the most rewarding and empowering feelings.

A glass with a bottom and a top inside radius of 5 cm and 7.5 cm respectively, and a height of 5 inches, was filled with water until the brim. A solid spherical ball was dropped inside resulting in the water overflowing and spilling, creating a wet area on the table. The ball has a radius of 4 cm. Find: (a) the volume of the water spilled (assuming the glass remained full to the brim) and (b) the area of the wet area assuming that the spilled water was evenly distributed on the table at 1 mm thickness.

Algebra

Solve the problem using substitution or elimination by addition.
9x - 3y = 24
11x + 2y = 1

Use a graphing calculator to find the solution to each system.
Round your answer to three decimal places.
y = 2x - 9
y = 3x + 5
