Reconsider the inventory problem of Example 8.1, but now suppose
that the store policy is to order more aquariums if there are less
than two left in stock at the end of the week. In either case (zero
or one remaining) the store orders enough to bring the total number
of aquariums in stock back up to three.
(a) Calculate the probability that the demand for
aquariums in a given week exceeds the supply. Use the five-step
method, and model as a Markov chain in steady state.

A stone is dropped from a certain height of 5x meters (height from the surface of the lake) into a lake 100 meters deep. The stone reaches the bed of the lake 7 seconds after it was dropped. Assume that both the velocity and the acceleration of the stone are halved on entering the water. Then the value of x is. (g = 10 m/s^2)

PROBLEM SOLVING QUESTION: QUESTION
Seema places an advert in her local shop window, 'Five goblets for sale: each RM10. Available only to the first five people who pay me this amount by Saturday 1st May'.
a. Ali sends Seema RM10 in the post on Tuesday 27th April and says he will collect one goblet on Monday 3rd May. The letter gets lost in the post. Advise Ali if he has a contract with Seema and whether he can collect the goblet on the 3rd of May.
b. In the morning of Thursday 29th April, Chong telephones Seema and asks if he can buy two goblets for RM15. Seema says she needs time to think about this, and Chong tells her to let him know by Saturday at 10 am. On Thursday evening, Seema calls Chong and leaves a message on his answering machine saying, 'I agree you can have two goblets for RM15.' Chong does not hear the message until Sunday morning. Advise Chong if he has a contract.
c. Being disappointed by the response to the advert, Seema decides to place the remaining three goblets in an auction on Friday 30th April. Seema places a note in her shop window stating that the goblets are no longer for sale and that they are going to auction. Discuss Seema's action.
d. Having seen the advert, Diego arrives at Seema's house on Saturday morning with RM10 and is very annoyed to see a note on Seema's shop window which states, "All goblets have been sold." He planned to give a goblet to his mother as a present. Advise Seema if she has a contract with Diego.

Nisbett and Cohen's archival studies in the United States found that none of these statements are correct. Prior to the Civil War, there were more slaves in the hills and dry plains than in the moist plains. The homicide rate within the rural U.S. South is larger in the moist plains than in the hills and dry plains. All kinds of homicide rates are higher in the U.S. South than in the North. The difference in argument-related homicide rates between the U.S. South and North is more pronounced between large cities in the South and North than it is between rural areas within the South and North.
