Hey, everybody.
00:01
Today we're talking about blood sugar and homeostasis.
00:04
So homeostasis is referring to regulation.
00:09
Okay.
00:11
It's a good way to think about it.
00:13
And blood sugar is your sugar and your blood, basically.
00:18
You need it.
00:19
You can't have too much of it, though.
00:21
So it needs to be at the right level.
00:26
And there are going to be some factors that are going to change this.
00:31
For example the one that you're probably thinking of when you hear blood sugar is what diabetes so with diabetes and i know you're thinking why does this relate to the endocrine system because endocrinologists are what deal with diabetes so if you're dealing with like a type one diabetic i'm right example type one so a type one diabetic is an individual who is unable to regulate their blood sugar so if they're in a situation called d -k -a.
01:10
It's called diabetic ketoacidosis.
01:16
They're going to look at, okay, they're a type 1.
01:20
Usually children, not always children actually.
01:23
They don't really know what causes it.
01:25
It starts.
01:26
They're going, huh, what's wrong with this person? then they take what's called their a1c, which is going to measure your three -month average of your blood glucose.
01:42
And with that, they're going to see numbers if you're a diabetic, like 320.
01:51
Okay? that's a lot of times what somebody will be if they're in, like d .k .a., which is diabetic, ketoacidosis.
01:57
I'm using this as an example.
01:59
I know this seems like an easy question.
02:00
It kind of is, but still important to know.
02:04
So if somebody has a blood glucose average of 320 or if that's their current one, okay? so their blood sugar level.
02:21
Physicians, so pt, so patients, need insulin.
02:32
So they're going to start giving them an insulin drip or a needle, whatever.
02:37
Usually some type of needle, if it is a type 1, as opposed to a type 2.
02:42
And that is because their blood sugar is too high.
02:45
Your range is supposed to be like 80 to 120.
02:48
What i say would be what i say is like average...
