(a) Aircraft sometimes acquire small static charges. Suppose a supersonic jet has a $0.500-\mu \mathrm{C}$ charge and flies due west at a speed of 660 $\mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}$ over the Earth's south magnetic pole, where the $8.00 \times 10^{-5}$ - $\mathrm{T}$ magnetic field points straight up. What are the direction and the magnitude of the magnetic force on the plane? (b) Discuss whether thevalue obtained in part (a) implies this is a significant or negligible effect.
Part (a): The magnitude of the force is $2.64 \times 10^{-8} \mathrm{N}$ and it points towards the earth.Part (b): The effect of this force is insignificant.

here. We know that the maximum force is equaling the charge multiplied by the velocity times, the magnitude of the magnetic field. And so this is on Lee. Because here the, um the direction, the angle between the direction of the velocity and the magnetic field that we can say that they're perpendicular to one another. So it be 90 degrees sign of 90 degrees is, of course, one. And so we have the maximum force. This would be equaling two 0.5 micro cool obs. So 0.5 times 10 to the negative six cool arms multiplied by the speed of 660 0.0 meters per second. Multiplied by the magnetic field of eight 0.0 times 10 to the negative. Fifth Tesla's. And we find that the maximum force is equaling 2.640 times 10 to the negative Eighth Newton's. This would be our final answer. Four part eh? And then party is asking us if this is this, um significant. And we can say that I know the is this. We can say that the effect of static charge on airplanes is negligible. That is the end of the solution. Thank you.
