A gas collected in a flexible container at a pressure of 0.97 atm has a volume of 0.500 L. The pressure is changed to 1.0 atm. The amount of gas and the temperature of the gas do not change.a. Will the volume of the gas increase or decrease? Explain.b. Which equation should you use to calculate the new volume of the gas?c. Calculate the volume of the gas at a pressure of 1.0 atm.
(a) The volume will decrease. See explanation.(b) The equation p1V1 = p2V2 would be used since temperature and amount of gas are constant.(c) 0.49 L

question. Number three is a Boyle's law calculation. We have a gas that is at a pressure of 0.97 atmospheres and a volume of 0.5 leaders. The pressures then change to one atmosphere. So according to Boyle's law, P one V one equals P two V two. So if we have an initial pressure of 0.97 atmospheres and an initial volume of 05 leaders, then if the pressure increases toe 1.0 atmospheres, what must happen to the new volume? We see that if the pressure has increased, which it has, the volume is going to have to decrease. So if this pressure has now increased to something above 0.97 this volume needs to decrease to something below 0.50 And when we carry out the calculation for the new volume, that's exactly what we get. A smaller volume, zero point 485 leaders, or to just two significant figures, 0.49 leaders
