Today we're going to be answering problem 40, which talks about concordance.
00:06
In particular, we are asked to think about the characteristics listed in the table and determine whether they are genetically influenced, environmentally influenced, or both.
00:20
So let's first define concordance.
00:22
Concordance is the percentage of twin pairs that are concordant for a trait.
00:27
And if we think about this, concordance should be higher in monosygotic, twins as they share 100 % of their genes with each other.
00:34
There are several rules that we have to think about in order to solve this problem.
00:38
If there is a genetic influence, that means that concordance has to be higher in monosygotic twins compared to dizigotic twins because, as i said, monosygotic twins, they share a greater percentage of genes with each other as opposed to dizigotic twins.
00:56
If it's an environmental influence, then dizegotic twins should have to have to be a greater percentage of genes with each other, as opposed to disigotic twins.
01:00
Have just the same amount, the same concordance as the monosygotic twins because both twins, both pairs of twins can share the same environment.
01:12
And if the concordance is higher in monosigotic twins and lower and dizigotic twins, but it's not 100 % for monosigotic, that means that both environmental and genetic influences play a role...
